Field events lead Tigers at ChicagolandsWednesday, April 13 2011 - Chicagolands
CHICAGO - Led by junior Justin Jones (Oakwood, Ill.) and freshman Kevin Franklin (Bellevue, Mich.) , the Olivet Nazarene University men's track and field team placed 11th out of 20 teams at the University of Chicago's Chicagolands event on Saturday, April 9.
In the Tigers' final week of preparation before the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Jones took third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 57.11 seconds. Franklin, meanwhile, finished third in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters.
Other placers included Kenny MacDonough (Novi, Mich.) , who finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run (31:24.50); Marcus Reynolds (Green Bay, Wis.) , who took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.86); Ross Johnson (Newton, Ill.) , who placed ninth in the 400 meters (50.26); Keenan Terry (Detroit, Mich.), who finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.30); and the 4x800-meter relay team, which finished second in its event with a time of 7:51.84.
The Tigers were also represented in field events by Sam Pimpo (Antioch, Ill.) , who took sixth in the decathlon with a score of 5,294. Teammate Andrew Rothen (Adrian, Mich.) finished seventh in the shot put (13.43), and Robert Croumlich (New Carlisle, Ind.) placed in two events: 11th in the hammer throw (44.11) and 13th in the shot put (12.93). Brandon Harris (Hobart, Ind.) finished 17th in the long jump (6.22). Reynolds, meanwhile, placed ninth in the javelin (46.60).
The Tigers return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, at the CCAC Championships, hosted by the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at Memorial Stadium in Joliet.
