Tigers fare well at NAIA championships; Versweyveld breaks school record

NAIA Indoor National Meet


GENEVA, Ohio - Ashley Fozkos (Valparaiso, Ind.), Kortney Ellingboe (Hamilton, Ill.) and Lauren Versweyveld (Delavan, Wis.) capped their 2011 indoor seasons with successful finishes at the NAIA Indoor National Championships.

Fozkos placed tied for ninth in the pole vault with a final height of 11-9.00. Fozkos tied with Lisa Koch, of Black Hills State (S.D.).

Ellingboe competed in the 3,000-meter run and took seventh place. After clocking in with a prelimanary time of 10 minutes, 24.57 seconds, she improved her mark by posting a final time of 10:14.92.

Versweyveld took eighth place in the 5,000-meter run. In the preliminaries, she set the school's indoor record with a career-best time of 17:34.06. She followed that performance with a 17:45.22 performance in the finals.

Brigitte Gross, of Sioux Falls (S.D.), took first-place honors in the pole vault with a height of 13-2.5, while Karlee Coffey, of Eastern Oregon, finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:55.36. Obsie Birru, of Grand View (Iowa), placed first in the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 16:51.67.

Oklahoma Baptist University won the meet with 75 points, while Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) placed second overall with 56 points.

The Tigers open their outdoor season on Friday, April 2, at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind. The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. (EST).
