Vollrath, Judson pick up NAIA Qualfications

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Bryce Vollrath (FR/Peoria, Ill.) and Grant Judson (SR/Swanton, Ohio) became the first two Tigers to hit the qualifying standards for the upcoming NAIA Outdoor National Championships, both in the shot put as the Olivet Nazarene University men's track and field team competed at the Knight Open 2017 hosted by Marian University (Ind.) on Friday, April 7.

Vollrath hit the automatic mark with a 16.28m (53' 5") mark, while Judson added a provisional qualification with a 15.57m (51' 1") throw.

Other top finishes:

  • Matt Oliva (JR/Addison, Ill.) – 400m run, seventh place (51.83)
  • Zachary Rice – 400m run, eighth place (52.31)
  • Sam Wilner (JR/Champaign, Ill.) – 400m run, ninth place (52.67)
  • Cristobal Hort (FR/Pembroke Township, Ill.)a – 100m, 10th place (11.38)
  • Tyler Gabriele (JR/Wheaton, Ill.) – 800m run, fourth place (1:58.06)
  • Matt Meehan (SO/Marshfield, Mass.) – 800m run, ninth place (2:00.14)
  • Lucas Ward (SO/Seneca, Ill.) – pole vault, fifth place (3.65m)
  • Benton Couch – long jump, 10th place (5.89m)
  • Bryce Vollrath – shot put, third place (16.28m)
  • Grant Judson – shot put, sixth place (15.57m)
  • Bryce Vollrath – discus, fourth place (46.31m)
  • Andrew Franklin (SO/Mahomet, Ill.) – discus, seventh place (41.76m)
  • Zach Fienhold – discus, eighth place (41.68m)
  • Andrew Franklin – hammer, first place (47.45m)
  • Jalon Simpson (FR/Portland, Mich.) – javelin, second place (52.65m)

The Tigers return to action on Friday, April 14 at the Greenville Select hosted by Greenville College. Events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
